![[Bestiary Header.png]] # 1 Bestiary The bestiary contains entries for an array of different creatures: animals, humanoids, monsters and mythical beasts. Use them to create combat challenges for your adventures or as a template to create your own NPCs. Reading through a few of the entries will give you a good understanding of a creature's power correlated to its threat level. # 2 How to Read a Bestiary Entry An entry begins with a description of a creature's physical appearance, habits, background and tactics. Listed below that are its passive talents if it has any. After that, you can find the amount of actions it may take each round of combat and what actions it has available. The creature's statistics (stats) are listed at the end of its entry. If an action has a damage stat, it counts as an attack and triggers a defense of the target. The reach stat describes how many fields the action's target may be away from the creature for the effect to occur. # 3 Entry Statistics NPCs are a greatly simplified version of a PC to make the GM's life easier. Ability modifiers, talents and maneuvers are already built into its statistics and available actions. The amount of vigor and focus of an NPC are also already part of the stats. Almost all stats are static values. When a creature attacks a PC, the player makes a defend check. It is always the players who roll the dice except if they are not supposed to know that something is happening - that is why a creature's stealth is rolled by the GM whenever the creature tries to move undetected. - **Type** (e.g. Animal): The classification of the creature. This might be important when using favors or mystic items. Each type consists of one word and a creature can have multiple types. - **Threat level** (e.g. Mediocre): An estimation of the danger a creature poses and how high the rewards are for defeating it (see [[Threat Level and Reward]]). - **Movement** (e.g. 5): How many fields the creature may move in one movement action. - **Vigilance** (e.g. 8): The difficulty a PC has to overcome to sneak by the creature. It is also the creature's position in the turn order. - **Stealth** (e.g. 2d6+1): The amount of dice you roll against a PC's vigilance if the creature tries to sneak by the PCs. - **Resilience (physical)** (e.g. 10): Is used when a PC makes a check against the creature where it would defend itself with either athletics, dexterity or toughness. It is also a rough measure of the creature's physical constitution. - **Resilience (mental)** (e.g. 10): Is used when a PC makes a check against the creature where it would defend itself with intuition, reasoning or willpower. It is also a rough measure of the creature's intelligence. - **Health** (e.g. 40): How much damage the creature can take before it falls unconscious and starts dying. - **Defense (active)** (e.g. 10): The damage reduction of the creature when it actively tries to deflect or dodge an attack. - **Defense (passive)** (e.g. 3): The damage reduction of the creature when it is unable to attempt an active defense (for example if it is stunned or ambushed). # 4 Bestiary Entries The entries are ordered by threat level. >Over time, the number of entries will be expanded.
