# Demons and their Makers A demonologist is someone who performs the rituals necessary to twist a living being into a demon. To infuse one being with properties of another one takes sacrifice though - blood and favor, to be exact. The creation process takes hours; it is horrid and cruel by nature. It has three parts: the subject that must endure great pain and shall become a demon, the sacrifice that must give its blood, and the demonologist that must give their favor. When becoming a demon, the subject irreversibly loses its ability to sire offspring. Demonologists may strive for power, modifying themselves to destroy their enemies or escape the clutches of death by prolonging their own existance with the life force of others. Some also try to create the perfect servants or warriors to obey them. Those demons have often been turned against their will and deeply resent their creators for it, but are bound to them by favor, force or fear. Sometimes a cult of demonologists will kidnap or pay unsuspecting people who will not be missed to twist them into demons. Some demonologists are driven by envy or vanity. They alter themselves to obtain the attributes of one of their peers - desiring their youth, beauty or athletic prowess. However, there have been cases where someone had undergone the change with a noble motivation. Some choose this path in order to defend their people or to better serve their community. # Demons and Mortal Law Most societies frown upon or outright punish the practice of demonology and consider everyone assiciated with it to be outlaws that may be rightfully killed by anyone. Demonologists and demons are often associated with evil and are frequently used as scapegoats when people or livestock go missing. # Divine and Mundane Creation While demons are made by mortals, a deity may also change or create a being. To the untrained eye, the two might not be distinguishable. So the common folk rely on names and descriptions of divine servants. Also, a cleric is always consulted, if possible, when dealing with non-humans. No one wants to squander their favor of the gods by attacking one of their servants.
